When making a wildlife pond, is there any particular species that you should try and avoid being together? I remember a while back there was a thread on koi, and it was said that there are diseases that the koi can pick up from other animals, so is it best to leave a wildlife pond and fish pond separate?

I'm not planning on making a pond anytime soon, but I've always wanted one so at some point I hope to!
There are lots of dos and don'ts nut but if you want lots of wildlife in your wildlife pond then excluding fish is pretty essential. If the pond is large enough then appropriate fish may find their own way there but don't ask me how. We had a perch appear in a pond at work in the middle of nowhere.

You could have linked ponds with fish in just one section.

Also try and stock with native plants if you can. Keep clear of parrots feather and canadian pondweed.
