Post your list of great wildlife walks in the UK here:

  • Winterfold Woods - Surrey
  • Leith Hill - Surrey
  • Winkworth Arboretum - Surrey
  • The Hatchlands - Surrey
  • Climping Beach - West Sussex
  • Blakeney Harbour - Norfolk (fantastic bird watching)
  • Netley Shoreline - Royal Victoria Country Park in Southampton
Hi, I just have been down to the beach, west whittering and walked around the coast line a bit to a little fishing harbour. There were salt marshes with loads of birdlife. It was great.
The West Highland if you can spare almost a week to complete it. The wildlife and scenery is breathtaking Icon_biggrin

I used to live in Netley Abbey when the Royal Victoria was still a hospital. I used to go down to the shore to see the QE2 sail past when it was still new and look over the Solent in the evening to the flares of the refinery. There wasn't much wildlife around in those days.

I also agree with Xeract regarding Blakeney Harbour in Norfolk. However, walking along to Blakeney Point on the shingle, is not a good idea. Energy sapping and draining, I had to quit after 2 hours trudge and turn back before the end ! My advice is stick to Blakeney harbour and the lovely pubs instead, you'll have a wonderful time.

From a local perspective on the Isle of Man we have a gorgeous walk from Port St Mary to Port Erin. This coastal route leads past a stack of Guillemots, plus regular sightings of Chough and Peregrine Falcons. Offshore you might spot a Basking Shark or Rissos Dolphins. A three hour stroll over a stunning coastline with amazing views and landscapes. Great.
One of my favourite places to walk is Thursley Common - it was ravaged by fire a couple of years ago Icon_sad

It's part heathland with some bog - I only "discovered" it about 8 months ago but now walk there at least once a week - there is always something to see. It is well known for its dragonflies and you can normally guarentee seeing a woodlark, over the past few weeks I've seen hobbys, stone chats, dartford warbler and redstarts, and earlier in the year saw wheatears and a grey shrike - and not to mention the lizards - my DH saw an adder there but I missed it Icon_sad

There is a marked heathland walk but there's lots of other paths, and there's many walks in the local walk books.
I took a look at your comment.i believe the below link will have all the details. Also i will recommend to my visitors.

One of my favourite walks is around Portland's east side from the Heights Hotel round to the Bill. Wonderful cliffs, great sea watching and ravens and peregrines overhead.

Other favourites are round Rutland Water (not necessarily the reserve although that is great) and Lindisfarne. And when I'm at home Walthamstow Marshes is a good walk, always something to see but best to go there early before all the dog walkers get out!
