Hello all.

I was wondering if anyone can help me identify this bird below. It came visiting last week. A new addition to my garden. I have a suspicion as to what it may be but I'm no expert, so I thought I'd present it here to see what the majority think.

Some pictures:

and a little video clip:

Apologies for the quality. The little fella surprised me and I had to film through the glass.

Thanks in advance.
Thats a juvenile Siskin that is
It looks like a female Siskin to me
Thank you Jamiewade94. That was quick! I couldn't figure out if it was a siskin or a bunting. I was hoping for a female bunting given how rare they are in these parts, but a Siskin will do nicely. Icon_cheesygrin

Many thanks for your help.

Cazzagirl. Thank you very much for your speedy reply also! You guys are fast! I wasn't expecting such a quick response. I'm glad though, so thank you both.

It's always nice to see new birds in the garden and when it's one I can't quite determine it's a joy to be able to come here and have someone idenitify them so quickly.

Cheers.

I dunno, I have just looked at an image of a female siskin, and the face is very yellow, and in the picture it is brown.
A lovely bird to have visting your garden, I must say
Have a look on Google or the RSPB website or something like that.

I think the colouring can vary. In the pics I have the females face has only a slight yellow tinge, mostly brown

Thats OK! Icon_cheesygrin This is the first time I have used my new bird book for identification. I was going to use it on Pauls Bird Quiz on this website, but I didn't get round to it in the end.
The book is the AA Field Guide to the Birds of Britain and Eurpoe. RRP £9.99. Please don't ask why I put in the information. I dont work for the company and I am not advertising! Icon_cheesygrin

I did have a look at the RSPB website, but it I didn't feel the illustrations were close enough to my picture. Thing is though because I filmed it through the glass, some of the detail isn't there saddly. Anyway. As you and Cazzagirl agree on the Siskin, I reckon it's a safe bet. It looks similar to the juvenile Siskin picture you kindly linked for me. Much appreciated.

Cheers

Indeed it is. I'm very lucky in this neck of the woods. On wednesday I had my first visit from a pair of Long-Tailed Tits. So within the space of a week I've had a Siskin and the Long Tailed Tits.

Lucky moi Icon_cheesygrin

Oui, vous êtes très heureux. Ils sont mon type préféré d'oiseau.

"Yes, you are very lucky. They are my favorite type of bird." in French. Long Tailed Tits are my favourites, but I don't get them in my garden. Icon_sad
