Lots of Sand Martins and Wheatears reported in Cornwall today and an Alpine Swift was seen near Newquay on Saturday!
Sand Martins and Wheatears also seen in Dorset yesterday.

Swallows are my 2nd favourite bird species, just after Long-Tailed Tits!
Spent the last 10 days just outside Shrewsbury. A huge flock of mixed fieldfares and redwings in the fields and trees just adjacent to the camp site.
At Martin Mere a couple of weeks ago, there was a chiffchaff flitting around in the bushes outside the Kingfisher Hide. Possibly one of the over-wintering ones, but still a bit further north than usual.

I agree, and no leaves on the trees to obscure the view.
wheatear today still looking for a hoopoe never seen one in this country i was working about a mile away from a long stayer last year but........... still managed to miss it
These northerly winds seem to have halted the spring stuff at the moment. Saw a few Sand Martins and Wheatears the other day. Still await my first Swallow.
Just seen the first Sand Martins (6 of them) for the Island this morning.

Paul, It will be interesting to see now, how long it takes any Swallows to reach me up here. I think they should be up here in a couple of days if the weather stays decent.

Any sign yet? Had about 20 on my local patch this afternoon with the Sand Martins. That reminds me, i must update my blog!
I saw my first swallows of the year yesterday. About 30 or so, all feeding on the wing.
No sign of any as of yet, but there has been a fair northerly wind. We have now got plenty of Wheat-ears here and the Chiff-chaff & Willow Warblers have made an appearance.
It is quite strange really because we still have got quite a few Fieldfares knocking around, the geese and Whooper swans have been flying north though.
We are off work this week-end, and its nice clam weather now, so i am off to find those Swallows.
