I am not sure if i have put my querie in the right thread--
Does anyone have a birdbox with a webcam fitted?
It has taken a while to do ,but i have now got mine installed but my worry is ,it is not infra red but the camera has small lights on the side of it to enable you to get a picture.
What i need to know does this light put the birds off going inside the box?
I would be very interested to hear from anyone who has one and if it has been used for nesting.
thanks Jan
I am not sure about the lights puting the birds off Jan, but I would love to see some photographs you get from the camers
If it is a known make (ie specifically made for bird boxes by a reputable company) i would think the lights will be fine. They will only let in light like the hole in the front of the box would. I don't know if i would advise against turning them on at night though. Are there any instructions with it?
I would be interested on any info on this subject
I had the webcab as a xmas present Paul, the leaflet calls it 168 special function it doesn,t really say what its uses are but my daughter says it is suitable for a birdbox.
I really hope they use it as its a lovely clear picture ,even though it is of an empty box at the moment.I have seen a bluetit pop his head in the hole but not seen one venture inside yet
I am so pleased yesterday bluetits have started nesting in my box.
I thought it wasn't going to happen this year and time was getting on.
It has been great watching them today they have been so busy.
I will get some pictures on here as soon as i can
Hi.
We have been using a bird box camera for many years, they work really well. There is no probem with lighting in your average bird box. One of the problems is getting to the birds to use the box fitted with the camera - so it is probably better to have a number of boxes up and then fit the camera to the box. You can fit the camera to the roof of the box and simply replace the one that is there.

The bluetits have been busy nest building for 6 days now ,there is so much stuff in there ,i hope to put some pics on soon
As promised a couple of pic from my web cam-

I have a CCTV pointed at a blackbird nest in the hedge. She has been sat on it but last night we saw rats in it and no blackbird. Really worried they have/will eat her eggs so will have to exterminate them....
Ive just found out that a company makes these boxes with camera right at the back of my house!!
