Nice shots there Tawny..

Don't get many around my Village, which is surprizing as they are a common bird. See lots of other Gull species though, my house is smack by a flight line, so i get the pleasure of armchair Bird watchingIcon_biggrin
Good pictures there Tawny. We get loads of Black Headed Gulls down here in Essex, becasue I live near a River and the coast, so Gulls come into land to search for food etc.
Thanks Fauna and Jamie, yes they are common where i live, coming in land to feed as well as on the river close by, i love photographing them as they make good subjects.
Great pictures! Thanks for posting them. We don't get them too often around here, I'm not sure I've ever seen one in any case.
Thanks Xeract, there are somany gulls sometimes it hard to tell them apart...glad you liked them.

So many gulls, and first winter plumage, and second winter plumage, and adult winter plumage and....Icon_biggrin .

Anyway, nice photos!

Kingfisher

I find ts really hard to tell some gulls apart when they are in their winter plumage. Black headed gulls loose their distinctive black heads, so from a distance, they could look like anything! Icon_smile
Hi Tawny,
Great shots. These birds are so elegant. Noticed down here in Falmouth that some of the adults are well into a full dark hood already.
Wow! Already! They still have the little black spot on their face down here in Essex (last time i looked)
I get a good view of various gulls from where I work down at Cardiff Bay. I work in a place called Techniquest, the building has large windows all down one side so an excellent view over the bay with it attendant bird life. Was watching cormarants the other day. Also get a lot of swans and ducks.

Yes same here.. seen some here today along the river.

And likewise on the Estuary here. Looking forward to seeing the Med Gulls with their black hoods. Stunning.
They look just like Black-Headed Gulls don't they?
A bit, yes. Here's some Med Gull photos to compare:
