It is quite amazing that just when you think we have discovered most things on the planet, something like this comes up!
Bizarre new mammal
It is called Rhynochocyon udzungwensis or a type of giant elephant shrew, presumably because of it's long snout.
Wow it looks like the Leptictidium on Walking with Beasts (I think thats how you spell it?). An amazing new discovery, thanks for the link Richard.
He he...funny looking sorts them Shrews. I've noticed that they have been finding alot more species lately. I've read they are going to use genetics( i think thats right)to define species, so there will be many more new species to the list. With this case, unless you are a scientists you won't be able to tell what's what?
They just found a Giant palm in Madagascar, its that large it can be seen on Google Earth.
Chris.
That's right, if your not a scientist and can't analyse the DNA of an animal to the average lay person any difference in the species would be negligible. And won't really make much difference anyway! It's great when a truly new species is found though. I read somewhere that there are huge amounts of insects species left undiscovered? It must be exciting to work in that field.
I'm going to have to look for this giant palm!
I have google Earth, I'm going to look for this giant palm too! Does anyone have the coordinates?
It is a very funny looking thing! I love it's nose, so cute!
Anyone find the palm, i have had a look and can not see anything. It's like looking for a needle in a hay stack me thinks!! Need the coords.
