How is everyone getting on with the RSPB bird survey this weekend. I did one in our garden this afternoon and came up with 20 different species , which is pretty good for just an hour...... and that was just a percentage of the birds that actually come into our garden over 24 hours. The sweetest birds I think are the longtailed tits and the siskins....... but then there are the blue tits and the wrens.... the bull finches and the dramatic great spotted woodpeckers... the starlings and the nuthatches. Oh dear which are my favourite!?
I have to be honest, I didn't even know it was on! Twenty species it great for an hour, I think I would average about 5-10 in my garden so you must have some real activity going on. I agree it's very difficult to come up with a favourite! I think out of that list I would choose the woodpecker but a very difficult choice.
I will probably do the survey later. Do you post your results on the RSPB website or something?
Well I did it but there wasn't much around today except for a few greenfinches and chaffinches and a sparrowhawk. I think the sparrowhawk scared all the birds off Icon_sad

jamie, you can submit the results online at this webpage: http://www.rspb.org.uk/birdwatch/index.asp
Oh yes thanks Goldfinch. I would love to have a Sparrowhawk in my garden! I get the occasional Chaffinch and Greenfinch though, but not that many now.
They usually come in the spring with their chicks to feed on my feeders.
I had about 20 different species in my garden today too in the hour - 14 out of the 20 that the RSPB wanted us all to look out for & a Nuthatch, Pied Wagtail, Marsh Tit, Stonechat, Mistle Thrush & Great Spotted Woodpecker Icon_smile

I STARTED A THREAD ABOUT IT THE OTHER DAY!! LOOK HERE!

My children took the survey and they counted 14 species. My normall garden count dosen't get much better. The most i usually get is around 17, garden is still under construction.

I have never had Stonechat in my Garden, and i live on the side of a Common where it is teaming with them.
