The People's Trust for Endangered Species is conducting a mole survey to try and find out the distribution of moles in the countryside. They say moles are very mis-understood animals!

Thanks riana - I caught the last few seconds of this on the news but missed the info - I have moles in my garden & there are plenty of mole hills - so I already have a few to tell them about!

I have loads of molehills in the garden too I'm not sure how many moles are present though! there must be over a dozen molehills anyway. I will have to take a look at that rianna!! Thanks.
I think that you don't need to know the actual number of moles, as I assume they can work out roughly how many there are from the amount of mole hills.
I am astonished that moles are now deemed to be an endangered species. If anyone wants to see molehills they should come to the New Forest! We have a 4 acre field which the moles are successfully colonising at a great pace..... they really feel like a pest to me - they make such a mess . Perhaps if a few were to peek up at me and say hello I'd feel differently - maybe fall in love with the cute little things - but I never see them, I just see six or seven fresh mole hills every morning causing havoc ! We also have a herd of about eight fallow deer that like to graze the grass, several rabbits - not to mention all the other wild life vying for a bit of the field. What the field is supposed to be for (primarily) is horses - at this rate there will be no grass left for them! Hey Ho.

I can't believe that moles are actually considered endangered, I think the survey is to try and find out more about them and how they are distributed rather than for any conservation program. Or have I misunderstood it?
