Well, I've heard it all now. Al Gore has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.

Icon_cheesygrinI'm reliably informed that the decision was so hard between him and another candidate, that they flipped a coin to decide the winner. George W Bush lost!

Saddam Hussein was considered for a postumous award, but it was decided to leave this till a later dateIcon_eekIcon_lol

I'm not really big into politics, but it does seem as if a better candidate could have been chosen.

Wild canon, I don't think it will be Saddam Hussein, I think it will be the man who wants to start reducing everyone's dependence on oil--Dick Cheney Icon_rolleyes .

There's even talk that Gore will rerun for president on the back of this new-found popularity!! Personally, I couldn't quite understand what his ceaseless self-publicity has to do with 'peace'. Given the current state of events in the world, I would have found it far more telling if they had refused to award a Peace Prize this year.

Gore is better off right where he is, actually. He has more of a 'bully pulpit' right now than if he were president, and he doesn't have to ceaselessly drum up contributions to an election campaign. Nor does he have to deal with distractions like wars in foreign countries. I don't see what his message has to do with peace either.

I have to agree with you, TW, why award a 'Peace' prize at all this year?
