Hi there
I was wondering if anyone had any experience of blackbirds nesting and then just completely disappearing after the littl'uns have fledged? The dad disappeared straight after they went, the mum a week later and I have not seen the youngsters in over a week

I really hope the cats have not got the

I vaguely remember last year a male who yodelled and one day around this time he just stopped yodelling.
I believe that blackbird chicks can survive on their own after a relatively short time, usually about two weeks but can be less if they have to. They breed more than once in a season so the parents may have left to setup another nest.
My boyfriend spotted what he thought was the female one early this morning. I do hope they are all ok.
Still have not seen any since

I hope they're ok, I'm sure they are doing well. As Xeract said they sometimes don't stick around long at all so it is normal for them to move on quickly.
Have you seen them at all rowena? I would be very interested to hear if they come back, although I would expect them to have moved on for good.
I saw a baby about two weeks ago but other than that no sightings. Th same faily apparently made a nest in my neighbours hedge but he thinks they were scared off by the pigeons?? And thats why they nested in out hedge.
Will let you all know of anyother updates...
That's good news that you saw a baby. I would be surprised if the pidegons worried the blackbirds, but I don't know if they could for sure.
I would not of thought so either. Their next nest choice, although brilliant for me was not really that good a choice, right next to our house, but they still fed the babies throughout my birthday bbq!
