According to the BBC website, the trade in wild birds is to be banned permanently across the EU. The ban's purpose is to save rare species that until now have been imported from around the world.

According to the figures, around 60% of imported birds die before they even make it to the EU, which is a terrible waste. I welcome the ban, which could save millions of birds.

I totally agree with the ban but I do not consider that the enforcement and penalties are srong enough. The question is how do we tackle both these issues so endangered birds are fully protected.
