I saw a pair of these small mammals whilst fishing on the River Trent near Newark, Notts last Friday.
I have no idea what they could be. Can anyone help?
Sorry for the poor picture quality, I only had my very poor quality camera phone, and no zoom.
Hi
Very difficult to tell for certain from your picture I'm afraid but I would take a guess at mink, & they are devastating parts of our rivers & waterways.

I've had a look around the Internet for other pictures of mink, and I'm sure you're right. Thank you.
Given their waterside location I would agree that they are probably mink. Another import that escaped with, as Wildliferescuer said, devastating impact.
Now that hunting with hounds is banned, it would be interesting to find out how the mink population is being managed.
I think that they are being managed in certain areas by trapping & destroying, especially in areas where water voles are being reintroduced. Areas where otters are on the increase are also seeing a decrease in mink numbers I think as a mink is no match for an otter.
