Supposedly, a great white was spotted several days ago off the coast of Cornwall, only about 200m out. The fin was all over The Sun's front page, and I could not understand how this one fin could have been a great white for certain.

It turns out it wasn't a great white after all, but instead probably just a basking shark, so we can all relax in the sea! Tabloids really do need to be more careful when reporting stories and consult the experts first, although we all knew that already Icon_rolleyes

"The Sun seems to run this story every summer. Just because parliament has gone into recess does not make this a great white shark," expert David Sims told the daily Guardian.

Is he implying that perhaps the local MP is not a human at all, but a Great White in disguise Icon_biggrin ?

They do seem to have that story a lot! Whether there is any great whites off our coasts I don't know, but never believe anything you read in the sun!
I love that quote Kingfisher, it is completely true that every year we are told there are great whites just off the Cornwall coast.

I do actually think it could be possible that we start seeing some kinds of sharks that we wouldn't expect straying near our coastlines as seas are getting warmer, I won't believe they are actually here until I see some real evidence.
If it was in the Sun it must be true Icon_lol

Yes definitely Icon_biggrin

Anyway if there was one, it might spice up Cornwall's glass bottomed boats that are otherwise devoid of life completely.

Icon_lol

That's right, we did have that as a topic a while back, didn't we?

Perhaps it should be suggested that Cornwall PROMOTE this as a tourist attraction, rather than a reason to avoid Cornwall Icon_biggrin ?
