I was sent these pictures of birds taken in John O'Groats by an owner of another wildlife website and he asked me if I or any other member could identify them. Any ideas anyone?

They were taken on the rocks at Duncansby Bay - Pentland Firth.

It looks a bit like a Skylark to me, though I'm not really sure.
It does look like a skylark to me, could it also be a Meadow Pipit? That is a similar bird and it does look like one.
I vote for one of the 'pipits' - meadow, tree or wood. I must get a better book!! I don't think it's a skylark as it says in my book that they have a small crest on their head male & female are alike.
I would say meadow pipit as well, tibbar is right! There should be a small crest if it's a skylark. I know that when Mr. Kingfisher and I spent a couple of days on holiday once trying to track down skylarks on San Juan Island here in Washington state, we studied every drabbish bird for a small, but obvious crest.

(Never did see one, either Icon_sad )

Kingfisher
I think Riana got there first Kingfisher with the pipit suggestion but as long as we got there in the end. I would be interested to here what Xeract or the other website thinks.
After looking at some photos of both in the internet, it is difficult to tell, but I would say it is a Pipit too.
For what it's worth, after looking at some photos on the internet I'm still not 100% sure, but I would also vote for the Pipit.
