Full Version: Moths in cocoons

Hi,

We have lots of lettuce growing in pots on the windowsill in our conservatory. There were also lots of caterpillars (moths) that have been happily munching the lettuce and have now gone into cocoons. Some have emerged and flown away but some are still cocooned. They are wrapped in silk hammocks on the underside of various lettuce leaves. Can I remove these leaves, put them into a shoe box with holes in it, and hang it from the roof of the gazebo in our garden (without harming the moths). The box would be out of the rain and if I hang it up they would be away from predators. We need to do this (or something else if this is not a good idea) because we want to put the next crop of lettuces in the pots.

Thanks,
Nancy
