I've never been able to hear bats, and I've always been jealous of people who can!
Waterpistols sound like a good idea, and fun in a strange way. I think I could spend quite a bit of time sitting at our window with my sniper water pistol ready to surprise any cats coming into the gaden........
I can just see you now 'poised' with your weapon lol! Don't get me wrong, I like cats, just not on MY patch that's all
and why do they poop in our gardens when we don't even own them? - another mystery.... If they didn't mercilessly kill the birds I'd like them even more!

Ive got three cat scarers, two that are continuously plugged in, and the other, a battery powered thing. I also have a high pressure water pistol. People could not like it if a dog got in the garden so why should cats be allowed, horrible things, how dare they try and hunt the birds in MY garden, they don't have any respect at all! gggrrrrrr
Saying that, I did get upset in May as I saw one get run over and since then have seen/heard of four others. I could not beleive how common it is
Unfortunately they do get run over more than you would think, and however much of an annoyance in the garden they are it is always terrible.
The water pistol definitely seems like the most satisfying way of keeping away the cats!

Cats and dogs only do what nature has intended them to do! My cats are kept strictly indoors, because I don't want them going after birds or other little creatures.

The trouble we used to get was cats coming to 'mark their territory' on our flowerbeds in the front garden. We put down pebbles and stones between the flowers and plants because we were told cats prefer doing things like that on soil. I don't know if its the uneven surface or what but it seems to have worked.
Maybe I have a more hardened mog than your local ones, sunshine!!
I would have thought that slate mulch was sharp though!

I wish all cats gave up that easily! We were tld once to lay wood chippings along our path to stop cats going on there, I don't think it made much difference though.

I would think it only made it easier! I am in awe of cats who would dig through slate

It does seem strange, but they are supposed to not like the "feel" of the chippings and therefore leave it alone, but like I said it didn't make any difference to the amount of cats in the garden. It does look nice though
