Anybody seen today's papers? Apparently (according to both the Mail and the Sun) we are about to be invaded by Siberian Chipmunks who will storm in via the Channel Tunnel bringing Lyme Disease with them, possibly as early as this summer. Should knock Swine Flu off the front pages, if so!
You have got to be tripping. At first i was like yey chipmunks then i just looked up lymes disease:

Lyme disease is caused by the bacterium Borrelia burgdorferi and is transmitted to humans by the bite of infected blacklegged ticks. Typical symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue, and a characteristic skin rash called erythema migrans. If left untreated, infection can spread to joints, the heart, and the nervous system

I'm lost there - not sure what you're saying.

What i meant was, i was looking forward to chipmunks coming over here but they have ticks on them and i hate ticks.
And so am pretty worried Icon_lol
And that quote is of the website.
Yes, "Oh cute" went to "Oh ... (expletive deleted)" with me as well as I read through the article in the paper this morning. The Sun article also says "...their bite can cause rabies" but it's a really badly written sentence as it doesn't make it clear whether they are referring to a chipmunk bite or a tick bite. Probably best to avoid both.

However, the idea of loads of chipmunks stampeding through the Channel Tunnel does conjure up an interesting picture in the mind.

Haha yer my expession was something like thatIcon_lol
Adn the thought of ticks buried in my skin makes me.... well....... tbh b***** scaredIcon_lol

Clearly the newspaper was having a slow news day.

As most know ticks which are not to choosey when looking for blood are present throughout the UK along with Lymes disease.

Since the chunnel was open I'm not aware of any wildlife using it and a chimpmunk must be about the most unlikely candidate.
more likely the only animals that will try and get through the channel tunnel will be the
scummus illegalus immigrantes

chipmunks nee bovver

Dave,
Yes you have said it!
We always get these hysterical stories about 'foreign wildlife' 'invading' our country and killing our native wildlife, while the uncomfortable truth is that the only species wiping out our wildlife is the humans! And lots of animals carry these ticks.
Most foreign wildlife settle in harmlessly after a while, once they have found a niche
In a few years harlequin ladybirds will also be forgotten.

I`m all for finding something to wipe Swine Flu off the front pages... Although, another disease to worry about is not the ideal copy!!!!
