I'm pleased that Jupiter has finally started to come up at a reasonable time! I have yet to see it and I can't wait. I think it's rising about 1am at the moment, so I could stay up for it, and in a month or so it will be up before midnight.

Has anyone seen Jupiter through a telescope before? I'm hoping to be able to resolve the great red spot, and even though I've heard it's not as spoectacular as Saturn and it's rings, it should still be an amazing sight.

I have never seen Jupiter either, and sorry for the question, but I've heard of the great red spot but what actually is it?

I've always known it to be a sort of high pressure storm, almost like the equivalent to a hurricane on earth. But correct me if Im wrong

Sunshine's right it is a high pressure storm system, like a hurricane except a hurricne is a low pressure weather system. The reason it has stayed around so long is that there is no surface or oceans to dissipate it.

Is Jupiter visible with the naked eye? If it is, where should I be looking?

According to my astronomical computer programme, Jupiter should be visible at 10.30 - 11.00 pm to the south south west, quite low in the sky.
