I live in Bursledon Green - Southampton, and in the last week have found two fully mature Hedgehogs killed by cars. In the last year I have not had one Hedgehog come into my garden, whereas 2 years ago my garden was known as The Hedgehog Highway.
That sounds terrible. Such a shame when it happens, although I suppose it's inevitable. Has there been a big increase in the number of cars around where you live?
I took a look at your site and recommend it to my visitors. I agree with you on the importance of becoming valuable in many different areas.Hedgehogs are a lot more than just another pretty face. Their contribution to history, folklore and even medical knowledge is extensive. Despite all of this, the lowly hedgehog has remained surrounded by an aura of mystery and superstition. Oftentimes misunderstood and maligned, it is only in this past century that hedgehogs have come into About Hedgehogs their own, becoming popular in literature, and now, since the early 1990's, being kept and even revered as domestic pets. Thats the same thing around here, too.
I live in leicestershire, and its always very busy-we live in a small village, yet they still get killed.
Its so very upsetting.
