Not strictly astronomy I know, but this is the closest to the science section that we have here.

What does everyone think of the LHC starting up soon? There's been a lot of hype in the press about it being the end of the world, does anyone believe it?
Just read up on what the LHC is (large Hadron Collider) and now need to find out about strangelets and the Hiigg's Boson!
No actual scientists are worried about something going wrong, it has all been studied extensively even if the anti-LHC crowd will tell you that scientists have never thought about it before. There is nothing to worry about Icon_smile
I was a little worried until I read that the collisions in the LHC are actually much less powerful than those going on in our atmosphere everyday, so there can't be much to worry about!
I am really looking forward to it. Apparently, the LHC is going to re-create the conditions after the Big Bang. Is that correct?
That's correct Jamie! It's powering on today, so if we're still here in a couple of hours we know there is nothing to worry about Icon_biggrin
If you are interested in the LHC - try this....I could listen to this guy all night. He makes physics so interesting. It was never like this when I was at school......Icon_eek:eek:Icon_eek
