Found this attractive little fly in Nettles at Druridge Bay Northumberland in June. I been trying to track it down since, with no luck.

Any help gratefully received.

Well i have narrowed this down a bit. It belongs to the family of Picture Wing flies- Tephritidae.

Still need to Id it as an individual but i will keep on trying.

glad im not the only one that had trouble identifying this one. i also spotted this on nettles a couple of weeks ago.

i think its a fruit fly (Diptera: Tephritidae) take a look at this link and see if you agree:

Thats the guy Outdoorman, ty for saving me a bit of surfing. i cant believe that something so colourful has been such a pain to track down.

no probs brian. i also cant believe something so colourful doesnt have a more colourfull common name.
oh well, that makes 2 of us been put out of our misery.
