Hello folks
I am new here. I hope you don'tmind me introducing myself by asking a question -

can anyone ID this insect? I found it drowned in the garden. At first Ithought it was one of the burnet moths but then realised that its front 'wings' are not scaly and though fairly soft look mosr like elytra, and its hind wings are clear. It is 9mm long.
Hi Mudskipper

It's a Froghopper Cercopsis vulnerata.

I've noticed them for the first time this year when I went on a walk I'd not been on before where they were on the bilbury plants.

Thanks for that, Cheryl. I see the similarity in shape to the common froghopper. We have plenty of bilberries around here so maybe I should have seen one before.
(But maybe I was too busy stuffing myself with bilberries)
