Full Version: Are White Faced Whistling Ducks rare in this country?

Hello,

After much research (well a quick 5 minute 'google') I've discovered that the strange duck we were feeding last night turns out to be a white faced whistling duck. They're not native in this country so is this a 'stray' who has escaped from someone's private collection or could it have been blown off-course on Sunday afternoon?

Can anyone tell me?

Thanks
Its highly unlikely that it is a true vagrant! Although i believe there are a few on the Norfolk broads that are escapes but living as wild.
Thanks for the reply, it wasn't about when we got home last night so it's probably trying to make its way back home (wherever that might be) we live on the South Leics/Northampton boarder so it's possible it got blown from Norfolk on Sunday afternoon. I've attached a photo of it, we've called it Rufus!

Regards,
M
Cant seem to find the photo of rufus! I think whistling ducks are Southern/mid American species? There are a couple that occur in Dominican Republic too. Not likely to have blown over from Norfolk. Likely to have escaped from a nearby collection!
