Not necessarily as it could be that more people spend more time out in what is adder country.
Reading the report of course gives the wrong impression of what the adder did. It definitely did not attack the walker. It simply bit him. As adders are not known for eating people it was probably only acting in self defence anyway.
Hi tibbar, good to see you

Could it be that more and more habitat for the adders is being destroyed so they are forced to live in areas where there is a higher populations of humans? An adder is unlikely to bite someone unless it is provoked. Maybe people are just not showing them enough respect.
Hi Riana , I just delve in & out at the moment as we have not had a lot of time but I am still here. I am quite interested in these reports as I have never seen an adder.
No niether have I Tibbar, which is also why this topic caught my eye

I agree.
I don't think adders are being forced out of normal territory - they might be searching out new territories. It is more than likely as with all these things that because of one report and media interest that this story (like everything else) is just topical.
You have to be reasonable lucky to see adders in the open. Having a dog with you will certainly reduce your chances.
Best to go where you know they are, fairly early before it gets too warm and check along path edges.
