Hi I'm new on here, I need some help, we found a young hedgehog around about 5pm, not sure whether it should be about this time of the day and fear there could be something wrong so I've put it in a box with some water and dog food, don't have any animals so went out and got some food, I have just wieghed it and it's wieght is 268g, I desparately want to try and help it but need some help.
Hi blackcap, I think you've done the right thing giving it dog food, cat food would be good too although I'm no expert. It may have just been a bit lost, although it's strange it was out at that time of day I agree. Best bet is to ring your local wildlife hospital or trust and they will give you advice or even come and collect it. Hopefully cazzagirl is about she knows a lot about hedgehogs, it might be worth PMing her.
Sorry I am a bit late but hedgehogs should not be out during the day. This usually indicates that they are ill or starving. One other reason may be that someone may be feeding a cat outside & the hedgehogs learn that there is food out during the day so go off in search of it. It should go to the rescue . Hope it's OK.
Definitely something is wrong if it's out in the day. It could be that it's learnt that food is around, but I think it's more likely there is something wrong with it, so the rescue centre is the best place for it.
