RE: Photo of the Month Competition - April - Insects

Hi Jamie

By "insects" do you mean "insects" or are you prepared to include other minibeasts?

Here's my entry. It's a very clever fly who was map reading for me on a recent trip to Austria!

Two brilliant entries so far, but come on people; I want more! I know it's a very difficult category, but what have you got to lose?

He is away at the moment on a University trip. He should be back sometime in the next week.

What seems to be the problem?

If I can't help, give Kingfisher an e-mail, as she is the SuperModerator.

Not many opportunities for insects this month yet, but I did spot this peacock butterfly at the weekend.

RE: April - Insects, Mini Beasts and Creepy Crawlies

Ok, he was back quicker than I thought! Icon_cheesygrin Icon_redface Nice pictures Xeract, SCR and Words.

OK, I feel very clever at the moment. I will run through my thoughts on the entered images so far:

Musclecat
A very fine image Musclecat, well done. I like how sharp the image is, and how the foreground and the background are thrown out of focus. Did the fly get you to where you wanted to go? Icon_smile

AndyK
AndyK, another very sharp image. The black background is the icing on the cake. how did you go about doing it? Was it a piece of black card or something?

South Coast Ranger
Nice photo there South Coast Ranger. You must have had an aperature of about f/22 or so? Once again, I like how the foreground and the background are thrown out of focus. Very good image there, well done!

Xeract
Your first entered photo I believe Xeract; and what a way to start! I like the angle the shot was taken at, right down by the slug. This time, the background is thrown out of focus. To improve on the image, you could have brought the background completely out of focus, as I think the gaps on the trees which are making the holes of light are very distracting on the image. But, once again, well done for such an almost humourus shot!(constructive critism)

Words
Another newbie here on the photo competition, and this time it is Words! I absolutely love the colouring in your picture. The red of the butterfly and the brown of the log contrast really well. Good shot!
