Albino squirrels

Hi
As well as my normal grey squirrels visiting my garden, for the first time I got a young white squirrel lovely pink eyes, a bit clumsy, but got better as it grew. I could get quite close to it unlike the others.
I was wondering how many other people have had an albino squirrel as a visitor. Sorry for the spelling of albino?

RE: Albino squirrels

I am surprised that it has managed to live this long. Your albino squirrel probably does not have very good eyesight because they can't handle bright light. Additionally, the white colour makes them easy prey for birds of prey, foxes, cats.

Perhaps you could get a photo of it for us?

I've never seen an albino squirrel before, but as Kingfisher says it is lucky to have survived that long. When was the last time you saw it? I hope it is doing well, you never know how animals could adapt if they get the chance.

I would love to see some pictures too. Have a look at these threads for how to upload photos to the gallery, and then put them in posts if you would like.

I've never seen an albino squirrel before either.

RE: Albino squirrels

It's a while since I last saw it but I saw an albino squirrel in a tree on Leigham Court Road in Streatham (south london) - I thought I was seeing things, I didn't actually know they existed but it was so lovely.

RE: Albino squirrels

It's always interesting when you see something in the wild that you are not expecting, especially if it is in a built up area such as London because you can get very used to seeing the same animals.

Being albino of course puts them at a disadvantage when it comes to being spotted though, which is why not many are seen.
