RE: Agriculturals

Have just checked the show website, and it states that llamas (and I assume alpacas) are affected by the restrictions and will not be present Icon_sad.

RE: Agriculturals

That's a real shame that they weren't there. I think that the restrictions on moving animals have been lifted now, but unfortunately it's a bit too late for most agriculturals.

RE: Agriculturals

I have to say that I thought that the organisers did a fantastic job to make up for the lack of livestock. Although they were sadly missed, there was an increased number of horses, and the heavy horse turnout was really worth watching, especially as they had teams pulling a variety of coaches, carriages and waggons. The dedication that goes into turning out the horses and restoring and preparing the carriages is quite staggering. Talking to some of the owners, they said that it was the best turnout they had been to all year. The Shetland pony racing was also great fun - those little fella's can really move and seemed to be having as much fun as the young jockeys. And the weather was just perfect to encourage people to come out to support the event.

I just hope that the travelling livestock displays that would normally have been there haven't been too badly affected, although there will obviously have been quite a loss of earnings from being unable to attend the shows. Hopefully, they will be back next year.

RE: Agriculturals

I have not heard much about the quarantine lately, but I do hope it is over.

The local fair has an entire barn devoted to the draught horses. It's a wonderful show, seeing the horses in harness, and doing what they were bred to do.

The heavy horse and shetland races sound like a lot of fun. I'm sure that the travelling displays will be back next year, provided there is no other outbreak, we'll all have our fingers crossed.

I believe quarantine is over, althoughh there are still foot and mouth outbreak signs all over Surrey.
