Hi. CW.
I was about 30 feet from it, they are not well sighted, so the photos of it resting, it had no idea I was there, then I made a noise and it was off.... then it resurfaced.... then it knew I was there... the photos of it almost out of the water, that was it trying to see me.. I took about 148 photos of it.. all pretty good.. Might put a larger version on my Otter album on my website tomorrow.. Icon_wink

RE: A day out with george.

Hi. All.
I was back up in the moors today for a wee bit o angling.. while I was there I took photos of a couple o plants, now I'm hopeless with plant IDs.. the first one is yellow [maybe a buttercup] the second one is really nice, its blue, only about a half inch wide, and da last one is I think bog cotton. I told you I was hopeless wae plants, now if it was birdies, then no problem Icon_cheesygrin

Then finally I caught a cracker o a trout, about 20 inches long, pure wild, I caught it in blazing sunlight wae a nymph, I don't know its weight as I returned it to the loch..

The flowers..

The trout..

Whooper Swan [ Cygnus cygnus ]

Breeds on tundra pools and small lakes with sheltering vegetation. but has spread south recently. Migrates to open waters in NW Europe. Hardy, closely following retreat of ice in spring..

And guess what, I found this family breeding on Shetland today, they had three signets..

George-you take my breath away you know-you casually say you are going out to see if you can spot an otter....and you do!! And its like the otters know and say to each other "heres george, look busy" and play for you, catch fish to show you..man you are so lucky!!! Which makes us lucky as we get to see your pics..thanks so much for sharing images a lot of us dont see.

RE: A day out with george.

Well it was real foggy this morning, but one of my sons told me it was clear on the west side of the island.. :sunshine:

So I headed off oot the door, and drove to the beautiful Eshaness, I did a couple of hours angling, no luck, so I wandered about the hills with just my camera, I just left my rod, net, rucksack, and jacket alongside a loch, of course we don't have any neds in my part o the world. :giggle:

So in my wanders I found a feather, some really small heath plants, and of course the cliffs..

The birds I saw were the usual type for this part o the world..

Great Skua.
Arctic Skua.
Oystercatcher.
Ringed Plover.
Wheatear.
Arctic Terns.
Common Gulls.
4 Red Throated Divers.
Curlew.
and Snipe. Plus the usual starlings..

The feather

The plants

The cliffs

The loch

The loch I was fishing.. Its called the Gerdie Loch.. has very large trout.. the largest one was one of over 8lbs..

RE: A day out with george.

Hi.Wayne.
Thanks for the ID.. the second flower, I think its clover, the last plant was really small, but really nice looking..

My favorite is the feather..... I took it for a bit of fun.....

The cliffs are formed by volcanic rock..

Eshaness means volcanic in old norse.. Icon_wink

Its not often you see the Atlantic so serene... Fi_lone_ranger

what lovely photos as always george! The second flower is indeed thrift, there is lots of it on the cliffs around here too!

Hi george

not to sure about the atlantic not being flat calm either, my eldest son has whinging for the last couple of weeks about their been no surf. but stunning scenery nontheless. Do you go sea fishing then seen your throut just wondering if you go spinning for a mackeral supper or even maybe if your lucky some bass.
