100m diving toad

Scientists at loch ness have found a toad (alive) swimming at the bottom of loch ness, 100m down. Pretty impressive! The pressure down there is several times that of above water, I'm surprised it can survive.

Considering how soft the toad is, that is quite amazing. You would think it would be squished. The question is, why is it down there? What can it gain from being there?

RE: 100m diving toad

riana, that's a really good question. What is it eating, and how is it surviving? I would imagine it must be quite cold at the bottom of Loch Ness, as well, so how is it able to survive the cold temperature?

Toads are cold blooded creatures so you could think that the cold temperatures down there would severely hamper it in whatever it was trying to do. Perhaps it had just accidentally gone too deep, I can't think of any reason why it would WANT to be there.

Perhaps there was something not right about this toad? It may have been ill, or lost its sense of depth and direction. If it was completely healthy then I'm not a toad expert by any means but that is very strange.

I'm thinking it's the Loch Ness Monster. The miniature version, at least.

I know toads need deep water to spawn successfully, maybe the toad was an over protective parent Icon_smile

That's true, but I've never heard of a toad spawn 100m down. I'm sure that it wouldn't be good for the spawn!
